Uh oh!

Jack's new words/expression is "uh oh"!  Makes us smile every time we hear it!  It looks like he's in jail, he's just on the other side of the gate.  He loves shutting the gate as soon as he gets to the top of the stairs!

Jack's 1 year appointment

Jack had his 1 year check up today.  He was still under the weather from the fever and ear infection but other than that he's doing great! I was a little concerned about the number of times that Jack has been sick this past year but his doctor said that was all normal and since his hemoglobin was in the normal range she wasn't worried.

Height 30 1/4 inches (50-75%)
Weight 23 lbs 8 oz (75-90%)
Head size 46 cm (50%)

Jack is getting closer to walking on his own.  He's much more interested in walking with our help lately.  He also has been walking along everything and loves his push toys.  He can walk holding only one finger so we think it won't be long until he's walking (then running!) all around the house!

He's doing better with sleeping.  He usually makes it until 3-4 am and then will go back to sleep until 6-6:30 am.  Unfortunately whenever he sleeps all night we know we will usually have a sick little guy on our hands in a few days.  I am looking forward to the days when he sleeps all night and is healthy!!

He's a great eater and it feels like he eats all the time!  A growing boy!!  We introduced whole milk a couple weeks ago and he seems to be liking it more and more.

He even started doing some sign language.  He goes to the caterpillar that Grandpa Kenny made for him and picks up the string and motions for us to pull it…..then he does the "please" sign.  Little things like that melt my heart!

Jack loves Madelyn!  She can do just about anything to him and he will laugh!  She likes to help Jack walk which usually ends up with Jack being yanked in one direction and then on the floor……but since it's Madelyn helping, he's smiling.

We are so blessed to have a healthy and handsome little guy to melt our hearts!

Happy 1st Birthday Jack!

Our sweet birthday boy!
I can't believe our Baby Jack is 1!!!  This year has been a whirlwind and it is just hard to believe how fast time goes.  Jack is such a happy little guy and he brings us so much joy!  He's my snuggler and I will forever cherish rocking him at night or having him lay his sweet head on my legs when he's in the middle of playing, just because he needs a break.  I know these times don't last forever so I am really trying to take it all in since I have watched how quickly Madelyn went from a baby to a preschooler!

We had planned on having Jack's 1st birthday party with our families on Saturday but since our kids were both sick the night before we decided to postpone.  Both kids seemed to be feeling better so we decided to have the party on Sunday, Jan 19th…..Jack's actual birthday!  It was a perfect day!  Nana, Papa, Grandpa, Grandma, Great Gpa Ray and Great Gma Darlene, the Froehle's, Uncle Marc and Uncle Chris were here to celebrate.  Unfortunately Aunt Jody couldn't make it because she had taken Saturday off to come but had to work on Sunday.

I'm not a big party planner but I went with the Mickey Mouse theme.  One of my co-workers had a Mickey party for her boys so she let us use her decorations!  We had tacos for lunch, cupcakes for dessert and then we opened presents.  Jack had lots of help opening his presents and he was thankful for that as I think he was overwhelmed (and not feeling 100%) by that time of the day!  Happy Birthday Jack!!!  We love you so much!

Here are some (a lot!) pictures from the fun day!

Not only was Jack not feeling 100% but he fell a few times and had a bruised left cheek!

Preschool!

Madelyn is now in preschool!  She transitioned a couple weeks ago.  We thought the transition might take a little while but Madelyn jumped right in and hasn't looked back.  She was set to spend a couple hours/day in her new preschool room for a week but on the first day Madelyn lined up with preschoolers when they were leaving the gym in the morning and she has been in preschool ever since.

Madelyn loves it!  Her teachers are Ms. Joanna and Ms. Carissa.  Both are amazing and we couldn't be happier.  Madelyn can't wait to get to school in the morning.  I typically drop Jack off in his room first and Madelyn says "I want to go to preschool".  Her vocabulary has taken off and we now have conversations with her.

Madelyn has always done great when it's come to transitioning so I guess I shouldn't be surprised but this felt like a big one.  We are so proud and so excited to watch her learn!

Fever, Sore Throat and another Ear Infection

Poor Jack has been sick again this week.  He can't catch a break from all the sickness.  He seems to be fine when he's out of daycare but when he goes back to the germ pool he is usually sick again.

Jack slept great at the beginning of the week and he didn't show any signs of sickness so I was hoping he turned a corner and sleeping through the night was becoming routine.  Unfortunately I got a call on my way to pick up the kids on Wednesday afternoon.  Jack had a fever of 103.8.  He definitely had a fever but I honestly don't think it was that high because it was only 100.3 when we got home and he hadn't had any Tylenol.

Ryan stayed home with Jack on Thursday and he seemed to be doing better.  His temp was down, he was eating and not as lethargic……so we sent him back to daycare on Friday.  The fever spiked again on Friday so I took him to the dr.  He was diagnosed with an ear infection and red/sore throat.  The dr gave us a new, stronger prescription - Cefdiner, in hopes that would help get rid of the ear infection and have him back to feeling better fast since his 1st birthday was this weekend.

Unfortunately Jack thew up both times we tried to give him the antibiotics.  It was a tough time at our house as Madelyn spiked a fever as well.  She had her head on my lap at dinner and complained of being cold.  Poor thing, she was sick too.

Thankfully Kenny & Emily were here to help!!  They were up to celebrate Jack's 1st birthday and as always they were a huge help with the kiddos!

Saturday morning we got a prescription for Amoxicillin and now Jack could be on his way to feeling better.  It definitely wasn't the quickest recovery as it took until Wed until Jack was feeling better and swallowing, which felt like forever, and then by Thursday Jack had that sparkle in his eye which we were all waiting for!

Happy Jack is back!

Sledding

It was finally warm enough on Sunday to go sledding!  This was the first time sledding for our family.  We went to Weaver Lake Elementary as there is a pretty big hill there.  I wasn't sure how it would go.  I had a feeling Jack would love it - he loves most anything - but I didn't know Madelyn would like it or if she would be scared.  She's a little more cautious than her brother.  Everyone had a great time!  Both kids even went down part of the hill by themselves!  Such a fun afternoon event!  We can't wait to go again…..we just need the temps and wind chills to warm up a bit!!
Before we ventured out!  All bundled up!

COLD days

Schools were closed on Monday & Tuesday of this week due to extreme cold temperatures and wind chills.  Since our daycare follows the same schedule as the schools the kids were home!  I stayed home on Monday and my parents came up on Tuesday.  The kids & I had a great time on Monday!  Between eating (feels like they eat all the time with meals and snacks!), playing with their new Christmas toys, watching some videos on the iPad and playing downstairs we had a busy day!  We have to keep a close eye on Jack these days…..he's all over the place.  I was washing a dish and I heard a loud noise - I looked over and Jack had pulled a bottle of wine off the shelf and was sitting in broken glass and red wine.  It was a process to clean up but no one got hurt and Madelyn was a huge helper.  Then later in the day I was helping Madelyn open some play doh containers and I hear the gate upstairs close.  Jack had crawled upstairs, closed the gate and was content playing up there by himself.  Later in the evening Jack was sitting in the living room and pulled the lamp over.  Thankfully it didn't land on him.  He's going to keep us on our toes!

Ryan got stuck in a meeting so he didn't get home until closer to 6:30.  It was around 5:30 and both kids were screaming…..Jack was hungry and tired since he doesn't nap well and Madelyn wanted her daddy.  You know you're a mom when screaming/crying children doesn't even phase you.  It was a fun day but I'm glad this isn't our normal routine as being a full time stay at home mom isn't the job for me!

Playing in the basement

I love our basement!  It's an open space where the kids can run/crawl around and it's like a whole new world for them since all the toys seem "new"!  We have spent more time downstairs watching football and basketball games.  So nice that the kids can entertain themselves more and more!

Jack loves the cozy coup and gets in and out on his own!
He's tipped it over a couple times but that never seems to phase him.

Madelyn's all smiles!
Happy to be running around!

Madelyn took this picture from my phone…..pretty good if you ask me!
Go Bears! :)
