September Sickness

September was a tough month for sickness at our house.  It seemed like one thing after another.  I was expecting this kind of sickness in Jan/Feb but not in September!

The first week of September Jack was sent home from daycare with a fever.  Then I ended up spiking a fever over the weekend so figured we would be fine in a couple days.  Little did I know that wasn't going to be the case......

My fever spiked on Saturday and broke by Sunday morning.....but on Sunday morning I woke up with a terrible sore throat.  I went to the dr on Monday morning to be tested for strep.  That came back negative.  Dr thought I just had a virus.  On Monday afternoon I got a call from daycare that Jack was pretty fussy and uncomfortable so Ryan took him to the dr.  Negative for everything - just a cold or virus.

I went back to the dr on Tuesday as my throat hurt so bad.  I was in tears whenever I tried to swallow.  The only reason I kept eating and drinking was because I needed to keep up my energy to nurse.  At one point I strongly considered stopping nursing.  They did blood work and I tested positive for mono.

My throat didn't start to feel any better until Thursday and I was finally able to swallow normally by Saturday.  Those were the longest 7 days of my life!

Thankfully my parents helped us out otherwise I have no idea how we would have gotten through.  My parents took Jack from Monday night to Wednesday night.  Nana stayed overnight on Wed to help in the morning and in case case Jack was up at night.  In the morning Madelyn kept asking to go to Nana & Papa's house so we decided to send her Thursday morning.  Madelyn was having a tough time since I was physically here but couldn't do anything or play with her.

She had a BLAST at Nana & Papa's house!  So many fun things......finding choo-choos with Papa, getting donuts, playing at the park, helping Great Grandpa Arnie move back into his apartment.  Then on Saturday my sister and her kids were in Owatonna so it was fun with cousins!

It took a couple weeks but I am back to feeling like myself again!  Thank goodness because the sickness didn't stop there......

Last week Tuesday (9/24) Jack was diagnosed with Hand Foot Mouth but since he didn't have a fever they said he could go back to daycare.  I had a feeling something was up as he threw up 1x over the weekend and took a couple really long naps (long for Jack that is).  His throat had blisters on them so that would explain the throwing up.

Then daycare called thinking that Madelyn might have Hand Foot Mouth - nope she didn't have HFM but instead she had an ear infection!  She hasn't had an ear infection since she had her tubes put in 1.5 yrs ago.  The dr confirmed both tubes have fallen out so we'll see where this takes us.  Madelyn is one tough cookie when it comes to germs.  She doesn't seem to get the nasty viruses that go around at daycare.  Her weakness seems to be her ears and at least we can treat those!

Thankfully this week we are all back to healthy and everyone made it a full week at work and daycare!

Even though he was sick, he still managed some smiles!
