Nana had butterfly pins, little windmills and balloons for the kids. There couldn't have been anything better! After being at the cemetery we went back to Nana & Papa's house for the afternoon. We shared memories about Marlys around the table which was so nice. The kids played and had a great time. Later in the afternoon we went to the park and that's always a hit!
It is amazing to watch these times through the eyes of child. Madelyn has been 3 and 4 years old during the time we have lost both Arnie & Marlys. I know on some level she understands and on another level it's too hard to comprehend. Whenever the kids would go to Owatonna one of the things they always did was visit Great Grandma Marlys......and that was honestly one of the highlights of their activities.....which just melted my heart. They loved going and see her. My grandma loved all of us with every ounce of herself.....and that was so apparent, even to the great grand kids who only knew who for a short while.
Since Marlys' passing Madelyn has never asked to go visit her which I think is so interesting because it's like she knows that Marlys isn't there anymore. One time she asked when can we see Great Gma Marlys in heaven. That question led to talking about how GG Arnie and GG Marlys are together again in heaven. Her follow up question/statement is always about how to get to heaven. One day she said we would climb a ladder, one day she wanted to take an airplane, one day she just wanted them to come down and lately she has been confused but she quickly moves on. I'm glad she asks questions and we just answer them in whatever way seems right for the time and place that we are in.
I miss my grandparents so much but I am so glad they are reunited and free from pain and suffering!
