We went to Owatonna on Monday morning and had lunch at my parent's house before heading to New Richland. The kids did great considering we had to get there early, then the visitation was 1 hour before the service and then they had to sit through the service. Thankfully Jack fell asleep and the other kids kept busy with markers, stickers and food!
It was neat to see my Grandma's friends and visit with some of them. It's always fun to hear stories from their past and share our stories as well. There were two of the workers from ClareBridge (memory care facility that my grandma was in for the last year) that came and that meant so much. They took such amazing care of my grandma and miss her dearly, just like the rest of us. You could tell they loved her by the heart-felt stories they told us.
My grandma loved us and wanted nothing more than to be together as a family! She supported us in everything we did. My dad gave the tribute and mentioned how my grandparents would come to our basketball games and when we would miss a shot they would sometimes smile and giggle. Not because they thought it was funny but it was because they didn't care how we did or who won, they just loved being there and seeing us. We can all learn something from that life lesson.
It is comforting knowing that she is back together again with Great Grandpa Arnie and they are smiling down on all of us! Madelyn has asked questions as we have gone through this process and it's so interesting to get a child's perspective. One of my favorites was when she asked how Great Grandpa Arnie got to heaven and she figured he must have climbed a ladder to get up there. Then after Great Grandma Marlys passed away she make the comment that GG Marlys climbed the ladder and was with GG Arnie. So precious!

So exhausted from the day. Madelyn fell asleep on the ride home and didn't wake up until the next morning. |
